Akashic Record is a soul-jazz/funk, Hammond organ driven quintet founded by drummer Tom Arey and organist Beau Sasser. Tom landed a small local weekly residency called The Akashic Sessions, to serve as a melting pot for local musicians and a chance for them to play consistently in a low-key setting to work on their craft. Friends Mike Tucker (tenor sax) and Brian Thomas (trombone) began joining the weekly jam session and a line-up began to solidify. Guitarist Jason Yost joined the band in 2005 and the Akashic Record lineup was set. This all-star lineup began playing consistently in Northampton and Boston, MA to full capacity crowds for their floor shakin', dirty, down home grooves. While continuing to focus on original compositions and interactive improvisation, The Akashic Record began spreading the grooves to Connecticut, Rhode Island, and NYC. Kings HWY represents the true origins of some of today's most popular musical forms, most notably, rhythm and blues, jazz and reggae. Nyabingi music and drumming came from the continent of Africa to the Caribbean islands. It began as a synthesis of the voice and beat, in far away circles, and progressed into a hypnotic sound made of acoustic bass, horns and piano, alongside goatskin drums. The addition of these instruments contributed to the growth of the drumming styles and it's recognition on a worldwide level, as well it's fusion with jazz music and it's vocabulary.
Featuring members of John Brown's Body, King's Highway plays a tight Caribbean jazz and maintains this tradition with well respected Nyabingi drumming, a pulsating rhythm section, and majestical horns. Booking: Alex alexberam@yahoo.com
